The VEY and VNY are vertically suspended, single or multistage pumps designed for high-temperature molten medium applications. Sulzer engineered them to balance high efficiency, low submergence and NPSHR requirements with long lifetime and reliability. They are typically used for heat transfer fluid circulation, as molten salt pumps in concentrated solar power, molten salt and small modular reactors, thermal energy storage, liquid air energy storage and several metal, chemical and industrial processes. Design features include a suction inducer for very low NPSHR, a throttle bushing for main shaft sealing with permanent recirculation to the tank, an auxiliary deflector that keeps molten salt from leaking to the atmosphere, and a heat shield between hot and cold sections. Thermal distortion, structural modal and rotor-dynamic analyses are carried out to ensure safe behaviour across the full speed range.
