It uses patented solid oxide cells that run either as fuel cells (SOFC) for power generation or as electrolysers (SOEC) for energy storage, switching between the two modes in under one minute. In power generation mode the only by-product is pure, biogenic CO₂, which can be captured for permanent storage or industrial use. Each unit is built as a modular, standardized container of about 35 to 40 t, and units can be combined into larger power generation and storage plants. Target applications include agricultural biogas plants, municipal utilities such as wastewater treatment plants, sector coupling projects and on-site power for data centers.
