The THIOPAQ® deep desulfurization system removes H₂S from this biogas so the gas is suitable for use, and handles the large variations in flow and sulfur load between season and off-season. The process recovers the alkalinity of the wash solution biologically, which Paques says gives cost benefits over conventional biogas scrubbers, and it separates and concentrates sulfur that can be reused in fertilizers for sugarcane plantations. The unit has an installed capacity of 5 MW of electricity plus 25,000 Nm³/day of biomethane, and its biogas plant is the first in Brazil with an independent biomethane pipeline, built by Cocal with Geo Biogas & Tech.
