Reference case
Annual net generation as a percent of the site output x 8760 h. IEA/NEA PCGE 2020 uses 10 % and 30 % for OCGTs. DEA's own peak service, 200 h a year (2.3 %), lies below the slider on purpose: at the other defaults the LCOE would be about 312 EUR/MWh, two thirds of it capital, and up to about 765 EUR/MWh at the costliest corner (50 MW, hot site, a Customized 671 EUR/kW, top gas and CO2 prices, 10 %).

Annual quantities at the current usage. Outline: full capacity, 8,760 h. Fill: 10.0 % capacity factor. Band width: share of energy in; non-energy flows are not to scale.
Net electrical rating at ISO conditions (15 C, sea level). DEA's data sheet is for a 100 MW unit and gives 50-200 MW as the typical plant range (note A); outside that band the scale law is not grounded, so the input is refused rather than extrapolated. Fixed O&M and start costs are paid per ISO MW.

Design ambient temperature at the site. Output and efficiency follow the EPA/DOE CHP Catalog curve (107 % output and +2 % efficiency at 4.4 C, 80 % and -8 % at 37.8 C, linear through ISO 15 C). The slider stops at the two published points: no extrapolation. Altitude and humidity are not modelled.
Number of starts. DEA's fixed O&M already includes 50 starts a year at 43 EUR/MW each; the model moves the fixed O&M by 43 EUR/MW for every start above or below 50 (DEA correction formula). The 20-100 range is an OpenJack stress box around DEA's 50, not a sourced range.
Delivered gas price per MWh on a higher heating value (HHV) basis: the basis of the natural gas inlet exported to project mode and the same key and basis as the SMR and ATR calculators. Default = IEAGHG 2017-02's 6 EUR/GJ LHV converted with its gas HHV/LHV (51.473 / 46.502); range = its 2-18 EUR/GJ LHV sensitivity.
Price paid per tonne of CO2 emitted (for example an ETS allowance). IEAGHG 2017-02 base 0 EUR/t, sensitivity 0-100. It enters the LCOE only; it is not exported as O&M to project mode, which prices CO2 itself.
Real discount rate applied to the capital (all costs are in constant 2015 EUR, so the rate must be real). Default 8 % as IEAGHG 2017-02 and the SMR/ATR calculators of the batch; range = the 3, 7 and 10 % of IEA/NEA PCGE 2020. DEA's 2024 CONE uses 5 %.

Screening techno-economics for a natural gas open-cycle (simple-cycle) gas turbine used as a peaking plant: net output at the site temperature, annual and full-load efficiency, heat rate, gas use, start-related costs, direct CO2, installed CAPEX, fixed and variable O&M, and the LCOE across low capacity factors. One coherent data sheet supplies the capital cost, O&M, start-up cost, efficiency and life: the Danish Energy Agency / Energinet Technology Data catalogue v0007, chapter 52 'Open Cycle Gas Turbine - natural gas', in fixed 2015 EUR (100 MW reference unit, 50-200 MW range). Two reference cases read two columns of that sheet, never mixing sources: 2020 (default, today's plant: 454 EUR/kW, 42 % / 40 %, 8,068 EUR/MW/year) and 2030 (435 EUR/kW, 43 % / 41 %, 7,745 EUR/MW/year).
The DEA efficiencies are net, LHV, at Danish ambient (about 8 C). The model first moves them to the site temperature with the EPA/DOE CHP Catalog curve (output 107 % and efficiency +2 % at 4.4 C, 80 % and -8 % at 37.8 C, linear through ISO 15 C, no extrapolation), then uses DEA's annual-average efficiency (40 %) rather than nameplate (42 %): the 5 % gap is the part-load and start penalty of DEA's peak duty. At 15 C the unit delivers 100 MW at 39.48 % LHV, i.e. 10.09 GJ/MWh HHV and 2.80 MWh of gas (HHV) per MWh. Gas is priced and exported per MWh HHV under the key ng_price_eur_per_mwh, with the IEAGHG 2017-02 gas HHV/LHV of 1.1069, so one project gas price applies identically here and in the SMR and ATR calculators of the batch. CO2 is the IPCC 2006 default 56.1 kg/GJ (LHV): 511.6 kg/MWh at 15 C, with the IPCC 54.3-58.3 interval shown as a band.
Starts are handled as DEA prescribes: its fixed O&M of 8,068 EUR/MW/year already contains 50 starts at 43 EUR/MW, and the model corrects it to the chosen start count with DEA's formula instead of adding a start line on top. Installed CAPEX is 454 EUR/kW at 100 MW in the 2020 case, scaled with an exponent of 0.7 inside 50-200 MW, or a Customized EPC quote in 2015 EUR (295-671 EUR/kW, DEA's band carried to 200 and 50 MW) used as is at every size; it is an EPC cost without owner's costs, interest during construction or grid connection, exported with battery_limit 'installed'. The LCOE is a real annuity over 25 years on constant EUR. At 100 MW, 15 C, 10 % capacity factor, 50 starts, gas 19.514 EUR/MWh HHV (6 EUR/GJ LHV), no carbon price and 8 %, it is 116.98 EUR/MWh: about 49 EUR/MWh capital, 55 gas, 9 fixed O&M and 4.5 variable O&M. Across the declared input box (all slider corners, both cases and both CAPEX sources) it spans about 30 to 480 EUR/MWh, driven mostly by capacity factor and gas price. Losses (fuel LHV minus net electricity) are about 134,300 MWh/year at that point, on the LHV basis of the DEA efficiencies.
Cross-checks, not used to calibrate: IEA/NEA PCGE 2020 OCGT LCOE at 7 % is 77.50-137.09 USD/MWh at 30 % and 140.51-182.18 USD/MWh at 10 % capacity factor, in 2018 USD. The model gives 77.1 and 112.9 EUR/MWh (2015 EUR) on the same rates; indexed to 2018 with the Danish HICP (Eurostat, 101.8 for 2015=100) and converted at the ECB 2018 average of 1.1810 USD/EUR (factor 1.202), that is 92.7 and 135.7 USD2018/MWh. At 30 % the model sits inside the PCGE range, in its lower third; at 10 % it sits just below the floor (135.7 against 140.51), a gap smaller than the 30 USD/t CO2 price that PCGE includes (about 15 USD/MWh at 512 kg/MWh) and the model leaves out by default. EIA AEO2023 heat rates are 9.63-10.45 GJ/MWh (aeroderivative to industrial frame). DEA's 2024 CONE study gives 0.47 MEUR/MW and 8,236 EUR/MW/year at 2023 prices.
Limits: one 100 MW aeroderivative reference, its efficiency held from 50 to 200 MW (150-200 MW is read as a block of several aeroderivatives sharing the balance of plant; an industrial frame turbine is out of scope); a linear derate from one turbine curve (medium evidence); no altitude, humidity or inlet cooling; no SCR or emission monitoring (DEA assumes the under-500-h exemption); fixed O&M per ISO MW, linear in size (DEA gives no scale effect and no source of the bundle prices the same OCGT at two sizes) and kept at the DEA value under a Customized CAPEX; the annual-average efficiency is held constant over 5-30 % capacity factor.

—DEA Technology Data v0007CAPEX BOUNDARY. costs.capex.isbl exports the installed EPC cost, so costs.capex.battery_limit is 'installed': project mode adds working capital and contingency (about x1.17 at its defaults) on top. The calculator's own LCOE uses the DEA cost without that uplift, so the project LCOE will be somewhat higher.
Market range Not applicable (boundary statement).
—DEA Technology Data v0007, IntroductionREAL BASIS. Every cost is in constant EUR (DEA 2015 for capital and O&M, IEAGHG 4Q-2014 for the gas default, not re-indexed, about 1 % apart), so the discount rate is real and nothing is escalated. Fixed O&M exported to project mode is an undiscounted annual cash amount in 2015 EUR.
Market range Not applicable (convention statement).
—DEA Technology Data v0007; IEAGHG 2017-02STARTS. DEA's fixed O&M already pays for 50 starts a year. The model corrects it to the user's start count and never adds a separate start line. The fuel burnt during starts is priced inside DEA's 43 EUR/MW at DEA's own fuel assumption, so a small part is counted twice with the gas line; it is not netted out.
Market range Not applicable (method statement).
—DEA Technology Data v0007EFFICIENCY. The fuel balance uses DEA's annual-average efficiency, not nameplate: the 5 % gap carries part load and starts of DEA's peak duty. The model keeps that gap constant across the 5-30 % capacity-factor range; a unit that runs longer at full load would do slightly better, so the gas line is conservative at the top of the slider.
Market range Not applicable (method statement).
—DEA Technology Data v0007DERATE. One industrial-turbine curve (Solar Taurus 70) stands in for a generic 100 MW aeroderivative, linear between the three printed points. Aeroderivatives usually lose more output in heat, so the hot-site output may be optimistic. Altitude derate is not modelled: EPA gives it only as a figure, without a printed number.
Market range Not applicable (evidence statement).
—EPA/DOE CHP Catalog s.3SCALE. The 0.7 exponent is used only inside DEA's 50-200 MW band; the capacity input is refused outside it. DEA's sheet describes a 100 MW aeroderivative (large aeroderivatives are rated 20-100 MW, note A) and the efficiency is held at the DEA value from 50 to 200 MW: 150-200 MW is read as a block of several aeroderivatives (same efficiency, economy of scale on the shared balance of plant), not one larger machine. An industrial frame turbine (EIA AEO2023 lists one at 9,905 Btu/kWh HHV, around 237 MW, size to be checked) is out of scope and has no case here. The fixed O&M stays linear in MW: DEA prints it per MW with no scale effect, and no source of the bundle prices an OCGT of the same technology at two sizes.
Market range Not applicable (domain statement).
—DEA Technology Data v0007CO2. Direct stack CO2 from gas combustion only. Upstream methane leakage, CH4 and N2O from combustion and construction emissions are not counted. The carbon price enters the LCOE but is not exported as O&M; project mode prices emissions from the exported direct CO2.
Market range Not applicable (scope statement).
—IPCC 2006 GuidelinesCROSS-CHECK. At 7 %, no carbon price and the IEAGHG gas price, the model gives 77.1 EUR/MWh at 30 % and 112.9 EUR/MWh at 10 % capacity factor, in fixed 2015 EUR. PCGE ranges are in 2018 USD (PCGE 2020, PDF p.43): 77.50-137.09 USD/MWh at 30 % and 140.51-182.18 USD/MWh at 10 %. Converted with the Danish HICP from 2015 to 2018 (Eurostat prc_hicp_aind, 100 to 101.8) and the ECB 2018 annual average reference rate (1.1810 USD/EUR), a factor of 1.202, the model gives 92.7 and 135.7 USD2018/MWh. At 30 % it sits inside the PCGE range, in its lower third; at 10 % it sits just below the floor (135.7 against 140.51, -3.4 %). That remaining gap is smaller than the 30 USD/t CO2 price PCGE includes (about 15 USD/MWh at the model's 512 kg/MWh), which the model's default carbon price of zero leaves out.
Market range PCGE ranges quoted above.
—IEA/NEA PCGE 2020CROSS-CHECK. EIA heat rates are stated on a higher heating value basis (US practice), so only the model's HHV heat rate is compared: 10.09 GJ/MWh HHV (9,567 Btu/kWh) at 15 C, inside the EIA simple-cycle pair 9.63-10.45 GJ/MWh (9,124-9,905 Btu/kWh). The LHV heat rate (9.12 GJ/MWh) is not comparable with EIA and is not used in this check.
Market range EIA pair quoted above.
—EIA AEO2023CROSS-CHECK. CONE 2024 gives 0.47 MEUR/MW and 8,236 EUR/MW/year at 2023 prices for an OCGT on gas; the sheet used here gives 0.454 MEUR/MW and 8,068 EUR/MW/year in 2015 EUR. Indexed with the Danish HICP (Eurostat prc_hicp_aind, 2015=100: 117.6 in 2023), the sheet's figures become about 534 EUR/kW and 9,490 EUR/MW/year at 2023 prices, so CONE is about 12 % (capex) and 13 % (fixed O&M) lower in real terms. Deflated to 2015 EUR, CONE's capex is about 400 EUR/kW, inside DEA's own uncertainty band of 363-545 EUR/kW. The model default sits on the high side of the more recent DEA estimate.
Market range CONE values quoted above.
—DEA CONE 2024BATCH ALIGNMENT. Gas is priced per MWh HHV under the key ng_price_eur_per_mwh and exported as an HHV inlet, so a single project gas price applies consistently to gas turbines and reformers. The CCGT calculator of the same batch uses the same economic basis.
