The Cryodynamics ECC is a submerged electric cryogenic pump whose pump and motor assembly sits inside a suction vessel built to the appropriate pressure vessel code, with the vessel acting as the outer pump casing. It is often built as a multi-stage pump for vaporizer feed and send-out service, and is also widely used as a single-stage transfer pump, with flow capacities up to 3,000 m3/h; it can be driven by a variable frequency drive to cover multiple duty points. For multi-stage send-out duty, a radial diffuser, stiff shaft design shortens stage length and enlarges shaft diameter, so the rotor normally runs well below its first critical speed. The motor is submerged in the oxygen-free liquefied gas, which removes the potential for ignition and eliminates rotating seals, allowing service in fluids such as LNG, ammonia or methane. A high-solidity helical inducer can be fitted as the first stage for low suction pressure, and suction vessel mounted pumps are also used in high-pressure send-out on FSRUs.
